Arrak
Arrak is a popular alcoholic beverage among the natives of Asia. This potent drink comes from fermented fruit, grain, sugarcane, molasses, or the sap of coconut palm.
In the Philippines, the widely sought Arrack is made from coconut palm and is locally known as Lambanog.
Lambanog also called “coconut vodka” is generally preferred by habitual drinkers for it does not produce hangover. It is famous for its potency that normally carries about 80 to 90 proof variations. The gathering of the coconut sap is an art by itself and has been passed down throughout generations of coconut plantation farmers.
The Lambanog’s Journey
Arrak Manila comes from carefully chosen coconut palm trees in the Southern Tagalog Region.
The agile workers skillfully climb coconut palms to collect fresh sap from the coconut buds or inflourescence. This sap also known as “Tuba” is fermented naturally for few days and then carefully distilled to produce the distinctly full, smooth, and fiery characteristics of Arrak Manila.
Using a unique, state of the art, multiple distillation process, traces of methanol and aldehyde are eliminated from the beverage. This is what sets Arrak Manila apart from other Lambanogs.
